Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About Divorce
Q: How is property divided in a divorce?
A: Alaska Courts divide property between spouses using the concept of Equitable Distribution. Keep in mind, equitable does not mean equal. The goal is to award each spouse a percentage of the total value of the assets based upon their future needs as expressed in nine specific factors. Often, that is a 50/50 split, and often, it is not.
